"You just couldn’t settle with improving pop music by way of orchestral arrangements, could you?… That’s why we love you."
I’m always thinking about improving things, and I feel like that’s how people should live their life. A lot of things I’m surrounded by bother me because they’re so poorly made. I don’t mean that everything needs to be made with laser-engraved aluminum, or be a huge music orchestra. That’s all just the manufacturing process. Design, from how I approach it, comes down to the details of how others will experience the product or service - regardless of what tools are used to create it.
Sometimes I feel like no one passionately cares when they make something - be it a website’s color scheme, a laptop’s bezel, a car’s cupholder, or even a door handle. But these things matter. A lot.
And yes, this concerns music, too. Music is design, just like that door handle or shoebox is. The smooth transition from a verse to a chorus demands the same attention to detail that anything else needs. Not more attention, not less attention - the ‘same’ attention. And by ‘same’ I mean a ton of attention to detail.
And design isn’t just about how things are made, it’s about how things are. Never stop questioning other people, or wondering why things are systematically the way they are. “It’s always been that way by design” is a horrible answer to one’s question.
The trick is to always keep the brain’s wheels turning and keep improving things (or questioning why they haven’t been improved yet) because design doesn’t sleep - so neither should your curiosity or demands for its perfection.
And this makes me very happy to read as graphic design student who also has tremendious interest in UX and UI.

Don’t worry, it doesn’t just take down the sources post, but it takes down all the reblogged posts too. Please give this a reblog, many artists out there may not know this is here. And remember, ask permission before sharing, or don’t post it.
